1st John
| Key Points: - -We write this to make our joy complete. 5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
- -If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
- -If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
- If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

Ecclesiastes | Key Points: - -Author (unknown) Ecclesiastes is the collected words of a “teacher” or “preacher.” The Teacher is described as having been king over Israel in Jerusalem, and as the son of David. Both of these mean that he was in the royal line of Judah. He is not further identified. Proper to leave a mystery.
- -This author's thesis mirrors the works of Russian Author Leo Tolstoy. Tolstoy came to the proper conclusion and gave away his wealth and found happiness in a loving relationship with Jesus serving God.
- -The authors initial questions appear at first to be a lack of understanding or lack of a clear goal. However, this is just his writing style. He truly understands but is giving both sides of the argument. He writes in a style as if he is asking the "Meaning of Life". See Gen above
- Ecclesiastes 3:12-14 'I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him. '
- Ecclesiastes 7:25 'So I turned my mind to understand, to investigate and to search out wisdom and the scheme of things and to understand the stupidity of wickedness and the madness of folly. '
- **Ecclesiastes 12:13-14: 'Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.'
